Double D beasts.

Last Thursday Kate and I headed to Dangerous Dan’s for calorie overload round 2. We split the “Elvis”: deep fried banana and bacon covered in peanut butter on a pretty big burger. Pure genius. And then we split “The Beast.”

And oh, what a beast it was.

A deep fried mars bar surrounded by deep-fried cheesecake triangles, mini-brownies, both chocolate and vanilla ice cream, all slathered in what seemed to be an entire can of whipped cream and a generous pouring of chocolate sauce. Aside from the melted ice cream, we ate pretty much all of it.

Then we promptly headed to a 7-11 for little slushies. Not so hot. Bring back the sour flavour. Pepsi blows.

I can’t speak for Kate but this ended up being no where near the end for me. I went and ate a bunch of nachos and a bowl of chili cheese fries within the next 8 hours. It was both a glorious day and one I think my body would have rather skipped.

No regrets.

Geriatric Struggles and Double Dessert.

We are still very excited about food.
And we’ve been doing exceptionally well as of late with regards to the LETS TRY NEW THINGS thing.
Today we went to Bar Italia to test out their Summerlicious menu.
Kate got the mixed greens in a vinegarette, and I got the roasted red pepper soup to start. Pretty good.
I enjoyed the veggie cappellini – mushrooms, asparagus, olives, snow peas, a liberal sprinkle of PARMESAN CHEESE for heaven’s sake. Kate wasn’t quite so keen. Until dessert.
I got the tiramisu which wasn’t half bad, and Kate got the flourless Belgian chocolate cake. AKA a hunk of creamy chocolate in the shape of a triangle. Delicious. Could have been bigger though (okay, I would have said this even if it were the size of Belgium, but really, the desserts were teensy).
The place was pretty empty, which was actually kind of nice. We sat on a covered part of the patio and watched some old people get confronted by a cop and then try various tools and techniques to reattach their broken car mirror. It ended in duct tape. I have no idea what happened, as their car was parked the entire time, but they were there as long as we were and the frail, hunchback ninety-year-old man speaking loudly into his cell phone almost made me pee myself during dessert.

The desserts were so small, in fact, that we took a little walk down College in search of a suitable place to plant ourselves for Double Dessert. We looped around after somehow pulling ourselves away from Dolce Gelato and The Big Chill on our quest to once again try something new. We made it to Kensington – sore feet, still hungry – and found ourselves at a place we’ve been meaning to try for ages: Wanda’s Pie In The Sky.
And oh my lord. Try it we did.
Kate got mile-high lemon meringue (it was so tall that while she was in the washroom a lady came up to our table and ogled it. I have no better word. It was an ogle if I ever saw one). I got the peach-praline. HOLY MOTHERFUCKING GOODNESS GRACIOUS it was delicious. We sat outside. It was glorious.
We then rolled on home, totally satisfied and glad we didn’t wear anything even close to resembling belts.

Edit:
After looking at a place on Spadina, we “rewarded” ourselves with Tim Hortons and Pizza Pizza combos. COMBOS. I’ll get back to you later maybe.
